Add Focus Text with a powerpoint Callout

A powerpoint callout is one of the many Shapes available in the Drawing section of the Home tab on the ribbon.

  1. Click on the drop down arrow to see all the available shapes. The Callout section is near the bottom of the list.
  2. Select the Callout of your choice. Your mouse pointer will change to a "cross" shape.

Click and drag the mouse to add the powerpoint callout to the slide.

  1. Hold the mouse button as you drag to create the shape of the powerpoint callout.
  2. Release the mouse button when the callout is close to the desired shape and size. We will resize it if necessary in a later step.
  3. Click the mouse in the center of the callout and type the callout text.

Resize a powerpoint Callout

If the powerpoint callout you created in the previous step is either too small or too large, you can resize it.

  1. Click on the border of the callout.
  2. Click and drag one of the selection handles to achieve the desired size. (Using a corner selection handle will maintain the proportions of the powerpoint callout.) Repeat if necessary.

powerpoint Callout Fills Have Many Options

  1. Click on the border of the powerpoint callout if it is not already selected.
  2. In the Drawing section of the Home tab of the ribbon, click on the drop down arrow for Shape Fill
  3. Select one of the colors displayed, or choose one of the many other fill options, such as picture, gradient or texture.
  4. The new fill color will be applied to the selected powerpoint callout.

Choose a New Font Color

  1. Select the powerpoint callout by clicking on the border.
  2. In the Font section of the Home tab of the ribbon, note the color of the line under the A button. This is the current color of the font.
  • If this color is to your liking, click on the A button. The current font color will be applied to the text in the powerpoint callout.
  • If you would like a different font color, click on the tiny drop down arrow next to the A. This will reveal the font color options. Make your selection. This new font color will be applied to the text of the powerpoint callout.

Direct the powerpoint Callout Pointer to the Object

The powerpoint callout pointer will vary in size depending on the choice you made. To direct the callout pointer to the correct object, follow these steps.

  1. Click on the border of the powerpoint callout to select it, if it is not already selected.
  2. Note the yellow diamond at the tip of the callout pointer. Drag this yellow diamond to point to the correct object. It will stretch and possibly reorient itself.
